Windows 8.1 operating system overview 2021

The Windows 8.1 operating system is an update for the Windows 8 operating system, it contains a number of innovations that were not present in the previous version. The developers listened to user feedback and returned the Start button to the desktop taskbar. However, it works differently than in previous versions of the OS: depending on the settings of the program, when the user opens the panel, either the Start screen with “live tiles” will open in front of him, or a list of all programs installed on the computer.

Windows 8.1

Key features of Windows 8.1

 Search engine algorithm

The updated Windows 8.1 search engine will work like a sophisticated Internet search engine. The search source will be PC native media, local apps, removable media, the Internet, and the SkyDrive cloud. In addition, the user can take advantage of advanced features: for example, video and audio files can be played directly in the current search window.

Personalizing your desktop

 The possibilities for customizing the main desktop have significantly expanded:

– now you can work with groups of several tiles;
– you can arbitrarily change the size of the tiles;
– launching the menu of installed programs can be activated with a special gesture (swiping vertically across the screen with your finger);
– advanced adjustment, sorting and updating of the menu;
– added new animated wallpaper for background.

In Windows 8.1, the lock screen has been redesigned – now it can act as a “photo frame”, showing a slideshow of selected photos. The modernization affected not only the aesthetic part of the lock screen, but also the functional one. For example, you can now receive Skype calls and video calls without having to unlock the screen.

SkyDrive Cloud Storage Center

 SkyDrive cloud storage is now fully integrated into the Windows 8.1 operating system. The SkyDrive app has also received a new update, so that all files are available even offline – just like in the desktop version.

Application functionality

 The main feature of Windows 8.1 in the work of applications is the ability to automatically update already installed applications. The interface of the application store has also changed – it has become more convenient and comfortable to work with. Among the innovations in Mail, there is a convenient opening of a browser or photo application in split screen mode to view the links or images contained in the letter.

The Photos app now features Photosynth spherical panoramas, which, curiously, first appeared a couple of years ago as an iPhone app. You can take a picture of the whole room, just standing still and moving the tablet in space, and the device will automatically take the necessary pictures and make a panorama of them. In addition, the application can now adjust colors.

Microsoft has announced deeper integration of the search engine Bing into Windows. The built-in system search is no longer just for files or applications. It is now a versatile tool that finds results on your computer’s hard drive, on the Web, in the SkyDrive cloud storage, inside documents and data from applications that support this function. From the search results screen, you can go directly to a related Wikipedia page if you want to, and view image search results, nearby attractions, upcoming events, or music.

Additional features include support for 3D printing. For this, an API has been developed that programmers can use in their applications. In fact, 3D printing now looks the same as printing ordinary text. MakerBot Replicator 2 and 3D Systems Cube 3D printers are currently supported. The latter is priced at around $ 1,300 and both of these models will soon be on sale in Microsoft Stores.

Windows 8 is an operating system with a unique Metro interface. This interface resembles a traditional desktop: the start screen has small application tiles that allow you to navigate to the desired software. In addition, the developers have provided a standard desktop. On the start screen, all tiles can be easily moved and grouped, renamed and resized. Thus, Windows 8 users can change the structure of the new and standard desktops.

What innovations should be noted?

Windows Store software store, which allows you to buy applications that increase the level of functionality of the operating system. System Restore. Now two functions are implemented to work with the system: restore and reset. In the first case, the system files can be returned to their original state, but the settings will be saved. A reset allows you to return your computer to factory settings and then start over from the beginning.

The Metro UI control panel allows you to configure the operating system in a minimum time. Explorer includes Ribbon-ribbon and features innovations, thanks to which you can avoid serious conflicts when copying and transferring files.

You can buy windows 8 with a GGWA license, which grants the right to use one copy of the operating system on one personal computer. The GGWA license is distributed with a COA Certificate of Authenticity, making it impossible for fraudulent activities to transfer an installed instance to another computer. It is important to note that GGWA are registered licenses designed for legal entities and individual entrepreneurs, so they cannot be used at home. Windows 8 is currently the fastest and most functional operating system.

Interface changes

 The first thing you’ll notice about Windows 8 is that it is completely different from its predecessors. The all-new interface includes new features, such as starting the Start screen (Start Screen), live tile (Live Tiles), active corners (Hot Corners). Start screen: the main screen in which you will work. It displays all of your apps as tiles. You can customize the screen, change the color scheme, choose a background image, rearrange tiles, and more.

Live Tiles: The screen uses live tiles, with brief information about the application. For example, the Weather app displays the current weather on its tile, and you can tap on it to open detailed information.

Hot corners: Use hot corners to navigate Windows. Just move your mouse cursor to the corner of the screen and a tile bar will open where you can switch between applications.

Charms Bar: This is a pop-up bar when you move the mouse to the upper or lower right corners of the screen. This panel provides quick access to search, sharing, start screen, devices, and settings.
